A big thing in healthcare in the United States is how much it costs. It has become a problem because it is unaffordable to some people. It causes people to become medically bankrupt and unable to get the care they need, meaning that this is a big problem. Now there are a lot of factors that contribute to this.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a healthcare reform that was signed into law by President Obama on March 23, 2010. It is formally known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and informally known as Obamacare.

Pharmaceutical companies are a big part of the healthcare industry. These companies produce medications that cure and treat illnesses and diseases. They also ultimately decide the cost of the medication. There are a lot of factors that contribute to the cost of medications that companies have to consider.

These interviews were conducted to learn more about the healthcare industry and system from people who worked in it and are experts on it. Quotes from these interviews appear in some of the blog posts. The people who were interviewed were Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher, Charles Gaba, Carlon Burt, and Pong Velasquez. 

Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher

Elizabeth Ann Pannill Fletcher is an American attorney and politician from the state of Texas. She is a Democrat and a member of the United States House of Representatives from Texas's 7th congressional district (Harris County).

Charles Gaba 

Charles Gaba is a professional freelance website developer. He doesn't actually have any medical background, but when the affordable care act was put in place he became very interested in it. He decided to start ACA signups so that there was one place where people could see data on the affordable care act.

Carlon Burt 

Carlon Burt works at Bryston Myers Squibb which is a pharmaceutical company. He is the regional business director for oncology, which means he is responsible for the sale of cancer medication.

Pong Velasquez

Pong Velasquez is the Chief Financial Officer of Nursing Resource Home Health Services. His business provides at-home care for mainly the elderly. As the Chief Financial Officer of his business, he takes care of day to day financial functions like budget, bills, and staying legal.
